A heart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI), occurs when a coronary artery is blocked inhibiting or blocking the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart, resulting in permanent and sometimes fatal damage to the heart muscle. [1] An estimated 790,000 individuals experienced a heart attack last year across the US. [2]

Surprisingly, the prevalence of heart attacks based upon percentage of the population is even greater for those living in the state of Arkansas. Based upon the 2017 statistics, 4.4% of the female population in AR suffered a heart attack compared to 3.1% of the female population across the US. For males, 6.5% experienced a heart attack in AR, vs only 5.5% of the male population across the US. [3]

So what does this amount to? Approximately 1 American dies from a heart attack every 40 seconds. Cardiovascular disease related deaths are estimated to exceed $1,044 billion by 2030. [2]

It is time for Arkansas to beat the statistic, rather than become one. Let TRS Wellness help fuel your heart health. See 9 recommendations below to get started. [1] Simply click the item you are interested in learning more information about.
